Looking for a pottery café in London? Art Play is a creative studio with a café and bar, where you can paint upcycled pottery at your own pace or book a class and make a piece from clay. Order a coffee or a glass of wine, pull up a seat and get stuck in. No experience needed.
What you can do at our pottery café
1. Paint pottery: choose an upcycled mug, plate or bowl and decorate it your way. Pottery, paints and brushes are provided.
2. Make pottery: a 1.5-hour hand-building class with an instructor, £32.
3. Try the wheel: a 1.5-hour wheel throwing taster at Shoreditch, £55.
4. Eat and drink: the café and bar serves coffee, soft drinks, wine and beer.
5. Bring the family: children's hand-building for ages 7+, £20.
Pottery painting is unguided, so you can chat, take your time and treat it like a café visit with something to do. Classes are led by an instructor and run on set dates. See the pottery page for what's bookable online.

How our pottery café is different
Most pottery cafés hand you a blank piece to paint. At Art Play the pottery you paint is upcycled, so each mug, plate or bowl has already had a life. You can also go a step further and make your own piece from clay in a class.
Pottery cafés in Shoreditch and Chelsea
Art Play Shoreditch is at 3 Norton Folgate, E1 6DB, near Liverpool Street. Art Play Chelsea is at 5 Chelsea Manor Street, SW3 3TW, near Sloane Square and South Kensington. Both have a café and bar. Ask in the studio which pottery pieces are available on the day.
Group visits and pottery parties
Coming with a group? Private hand-building pottery classes run for 8 to 60 guests from £28 per person, and both studios can be hired for birthdays, hen parties and work socials. Pizza can be added at Shoreditch.
