art bar in london
Three steps, no booking
Art Play runs three kinds of pottery class in London: hand-building for a relaxed, make-and-take session, a wheel throwing taster for anyone who wants to try the potter's wheel, and a children's clay class. All are beginner-friendly and led by an instructor. Compare them here and book online.
Pottery classes and prices
1. Hand-building pottery: 1.5 hours, £32. Shape a ceramic piece by hand and take it home. Ages 9+ with an adult.
2. Wheel throwing taster: 1.5 hours, £55, at Shoreditch. One piece glazed and kiln-fired, ready in 4 weeks.
3. Children's hand-building: one hour, £20. Air-dry clay for ages 7+, with an adult staying on site.
4. Private hand-building: groups of 8 to 60, £29 per person for 8 to 19 or £28 for 20 or more.
5. Add-ons: pizza (Shoreditch only), prosecco and wine can be added to hand-building bookings.
Clay, tools and guidance are included in every class, and there's a café and bar in the studio. If you're undecided, hand-building is the calmer option and the wheel is the messier one. Please arrive on time: guests more than 10 minutes late may not be admitted.

What you make in a pottery class
In hand-building you'll make your own unique ceramic piece using techniques your instructor shows you. On the wheel throwing taster most guests make a simple item such as a bowl, a cup or a small vessel while learning the core techniques, then choose a glaze from our range of colours.
Pottery class or pottery course?
Our classes are single sessions, so you can try pottery without signing up for a term. They're a good way to find out whether you prefer hand-building or the wheel before committing more time and money to either.
