Three steps, no booking
Looking for a pottery painting class in London? At Art Play, pottery painting is a self-led session rather than a taught class: you choose an upcycled mug, plate or bowl and paint it your way. If you'd like an instructor, book hand-building pottery or the wheel throwing taster instead.
Guided or unguided: which suits you?
1. Upcycle pottery painting (unguided): paint a pre-loved piece at your own pace. Pottery, paints and brushes provided.
2. Hand-building pottery (guided): shape your own ceramic piece with step-by-step instruction. 1.5 hours, £32.
3. Wheel throwing taster (guided): learn to centre and shape clay at Shoreditch. 1.5 hours, £55.
4. Sip & Paint (guided): prefer canvas? An artist leads a two-hour painting class, £38.
5. FreeFlow (unguided): paint a canvas or a bear with no brief, from £16.
All of these are beginner-friendly and include the materials. Guided classes run on set dates and are booked online. For pottery painting, ask in the studio which pieces are available.

Before you paint: a few tips
Wear something you don't mind getting paint on. There's no set design, so it helps to arrive with a rough idea: stripes, spots, a name or a simple pattern all work well on a mug or plate. The café and bar is open if you'd like a drink while you paint.
Pottery painting for groups
Painting pottery together is a low-pressure group activity. For private groups of 8 or more, tell us your numbers and date through private bookings and we'll let you know what we can arrange. Private hand-building classes can be booked online from £28 per person.
