Pottery painting in London, with a bar and less waste. At Art Play you paint upcycled pottery: choose a pre-loved mug, plate or bowl, pick your colours and decorate it however you like. It's unguided and beginner-friendly, at our studios in Shoreditch and Chelsea.
Pottery painting at Art Play: how it works
1. Pick your pottery: upcycled mugs, plates and bowls, each one a bit different.
2. Paint it your way: there's no instructor and no set design, so take your time.
3. Everything provided: the pottery, paints and brushes.
4. Food and drink: the café and bar serves coffee, soft drinks, wine and beer.
5. All skill levels: you don't need to be able to draw. Stripes, spots and simple patterns look great on a mug.

Painting pottery is easy to do while you talk, which makes it a natural fit for dates and catch-ups. It's also a calm rainy-day plan. For children who want to get their hands in clay, we run a children's hand-building class for ages 7+.
Want to make pottery, not just paint it?
Go one step further with a class. In hand-building (£32) you shape a ceramic piece by hand in 1.5 hours. The wheel throwing taster at Shoreditch (£55) teaches the basics of the potter's wheel, and your favourite piece is glazed in your chosen colour and kiln-fired.
