Three steps, no booking
Looking for a six-week painting course in London? Our current painting course is shorter: a three-week watercolour course for beginners at Art Play, £90. It runs at the same time each week and takes you from first washes to a finished painting. See the courses page for upcoming dates.
What the watercolour course covers
1. Session 1, basics and techniques: materials and setup, flat wash, gradient, wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry, plus texture with salt, dry brush and lifting.
2. Session 2, colour and simple forms: colour mixing, values and greens, then leaves, florals or fruit.
3. Session 3, final painting: composition, a planning sketch and a finished landscape, still life or floral piece, with quick feedback.
4. Beginner-friendly: no experience needed.
5. What to bring: just yourself.
You'll leave with a completed watercolour painting, a basic understanding of washing, blending, layering and brush control, and the confidence to keep experimenting on your own.

Is a painting course right for me?
A course suits you if you've enjoyed a one-off class and want to understand what you're doing. Working over consecutive weeks gives techniques time to sink in, and guided practice builds confidence faster than painting alone.
Not ready for a course?
Try a single session first. Sip & Paint is a guided acrylic painting class for £38, and FreeFlow gives you a canvas, paints and up to two hours to practise from £16. Both are beginner-friendly and include the materials.
Longer painting courses
We don't currently list a six-week painting course. New courses are added to the courses page when they're scheduled, so check there for the latest dates. In the meantime, the three-week watercolour course is a solid place to start.
