The long version
Why companies keep rebooking this
For the person who has been asked to organise something and does not want to be blamed for it.
Most away days fail in the same way. Somebody books an activity that is either so competitive it splits the team into winners and losers, or so gentle that everyone spends ninety minutes waiting for it to be over. Both produce the same outcome: people are polite about it in the room and honest about it in the group chat afterwards.
Making something together avoids that, and not because art is special. It is because the task has no scoreboard, everybody starts from the same place, and it occupies your hands while leaving your conversation completely free. Nobody is eliminated. Nobody has to be good at it. And crucially, nobody has to perform — which is the part that quietly excludes half of most teams from most team-building.
What actually happens on the day
You arrive to a room already set up — tables laid out to the plan we agreed, materials out, drinks ready if you have pre-ordered them. There is no build time and nothing for you to carry. Your host introduces the session in about three minutes, then the room starts working, and from that point your job is to be a guest at your own event.
For a two-hour team social that is one guided piece and a bar tab. For a half-day away day we usually run two shorter activities with food between them, because attention drops at about the ninety-minute mark and a change of task resets it more effectively than a coffee break does. For groups over sixty we run parallel stations across the floor and rotate, which keeps the noise up and stops it feeling like a school hall.
We can also work to a brief. Teams have painted their own product, their brand palette, a wall piece that got assembled at the end, and on one memorable occasion a portrait of their outgoing CFO. If you want the output to mean something back at the office, tell us at enquiry stage and we will build the session round it rather than bolting it on.
The three decisions you need to make
People overthink this, so: how many, how long, and whether you want the space to yourselves. That is genuinely all we need to quote. Everything else — which activity, what food, what time, whether there is a DJ — can be settled later and changed up to a week out without penalty.
Headcount can flex by 10% either side right up to 72 hours before, because we know somebody always drops out and somebody always brings a plus-one. We hold the date on a provisional basis for seven days with no deposit, which is usually enough time to get sign-off without losing the slot.
What it is not
It is not a facilitated workshop. There are no breakout objectives, no flip charts, no debrief and nobody will ask your team how the exercise made them feel. If you need structured facilitation around a business problem, this is the wrong booking and we will tell you so on the phone rather than take the money.
What it is, reliably, is two to four hours where a group of colleagues talk to each other properly while doing something none of them are experts at. That turns out to be worth more than most things with a workbook.

will ask you for
Space and capacity
Shoreditch takes 160 across two floors, or 40 in the private room with its own bar and entrance. Chelsea takes 90 or 40 in the private room. Layouts run long-table, and we will send a floorplan with your quote if you decide to go with space hire.
Food and drink
Sourdough pizza and snacks, or a fixed per-head catering package if you need the cost locked before you book. Drinks run as an open tab with a cap you set, a per-head package, or a pay-your-own bar — most teams take the capped tab, because it removes the awkwardness without removing the ceiling.
Vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and halal options vary across the whole menu. Send dietary requirements 48 hours ahead, so nobody has to interrogate a waiter in front of their colleagues.
Invoicing and paperwork
We invoice upfront with a deposit and final balance 2 weeks prior. VAT receipts issued automatically, and we are happy to be set up as a supplier — send us your onboarding form and we will return it the same week.
Public liability cover is £5m and certificates we have risk assessment, allergen matrix and PAT records. If your team needs a bespoke RA for an off-site sign-off, ask and we will write one against your template.
Access and inclusion
Both venues are step-free from the street with accessible toilets and table space for wheelchair users. Tell us in advance and we set the room up that way from the start rather than rearranging it while your team watches.
Sessions work without alcohol and without anyone having to speak in front of the group — worth knowing if your team has people who quietly dread both. We can dial the music down, run a quieter station away from the speakers, or brief a host to give instructions one to one. None of it costs extra and none of it needs explaining.
